Live French!
Alliance Française du Manitoba is a natural meeting place for people seeking a Francophone environment. It is a major partner in Winnipeg’s cultural life and fosters strong ties between French artists and the Canadian public.
Lectures & Discussions
Several times a year, Alliance Française welcomes personalities from France (authors, journalists, professors, artists, scientists, etc.) for readings, debates and round-table discussions with the audience.
Movies & Documentaries
Alliance Française regularly screens current movies from Québec, France and other French-speaking countries, as well as documentaries on the social and ecological challenges faced by our society.
Special Events
Alliance Française promotes several major social events throughout the year. For example, Le Gala du Beaujolais Nouveau in November celebrates one of the most extravagant and animated rituals of the wine world. La Fête de la musique in June provides a unique opportunity for new musical talents to express themselves and appear live on stage before audiences of all ages.
Library
The library is open to Alliance Française students and members. It provides a selection of novels, audio books, comic books, childrens’ books, CDs, videotapes, and DVDs.
Book Club
Since 1994, l’Alliance Française du Manitoba hosts a Book Club offering to the members the opportunity to read French literary works and to informally meet to disuss these books. The club meets once a month, generally on the second Friday of the month, to discuss a book previously read by the group members. An eclectic selection is provided: short stories, plays, novels from different periods, and more broadly French-language literary works. The group is small to encourage everyone’s participation and provide a friendly atmosphere. For more information please contact Henriette Ricou by phone (204-832-9198) or e-mail (henricou@aol.com).
