International Women's Day: CAMILLE CLAUDEL 1915

For International Women’s Day, the Centre culturel franco-manitobain and the Alliance Française du Manitoba are proud to present CAMILLE CLAUDEL 1915, a film by Bruno Dumont.

The story of Camille Claudel is about the confrontation of art and love, the rivalry between men and women.

We cordially invite you to this screening on Saturday, March 8th, 2014 at 8PM, at the Centre culturel franco-manitobain (Pauline-Boutin Theater). Tickets are only $6.

Don’t miss the tragic true story of this remarkable French sculptor, starring the exceptional Juliette Binoche.

SYNOPSIS: Camille Claudel (Juliette Binoche - Chocolate, The English Patient) was a famous sculptor when her behaviour prompted her family to confine her to a mental institution. Two years after her confinement - which lasted 30 years, until her death - she receives a letter from her beloved brother Paul Claudel (Jean-Luc Vincent) informing her of his upcoming visit. During the three-day-wait that will follow, Camille will slowly open up, spending time with her fellow patients, even attending a rehearsal. Even though she still feels persecuted and believes her former lover Auguste Rodin is plotting to poison her and steal away her art studio, the artist is convinced that she’ll soon be granted permission to reintegrate society and sculpt again.

*screened in French with English subtitles.
